The hitch receiver for BMW X3 is a great value if you do not need the electrical hookup for trailer brake lights. The dealer wanted $1400 for the original BMW hitch receiver installation (with the electrical jack though). I paid $200 (2.5 hours of labor) to my indy BMW mech to install it. You can install it yourself and pay just for the receiver, but be prepared to spend half day to full day working on it depending on your skills and break a few BMW plastic body clips. Anyway, the receiver allows one to install a bike rack easily on BMW X3 SAV and is much cheaper and more convenient than getting a roof rack for bikes. One star ...
